Stiffly upright to somewhat sprawling bristly-hairy annual or short-lived perennial.

Flower Yellow ray flowers, sometimes with red spots at bases. Central cone of purplish disk flowers.

Leaves 4 inch long to 3 inch wide, alternate, occurring mostly in lower part of plant. Short leaves clasping the stemp. 40-90 cm.
