Upright or sprawling perenial to 16 in, but usually much lower. Stem solitary usually much-branched at base.

Flower: to 1 in, 5 yellow petals, sometimes marked with red in basal area, usually opening flat. 2-9 flowers clustered on stalks longer than the leaves. Noding before and after blooming, remaining open only duringy warm or sunny weather.

Leaves: alternate, long-stalked, the blade divided into three leaflets, each leaflet to 1/2 inch long, notched at tip. Leaves sensitive and folding downward at night.

Leaves have tart agreeable taste, high in Vitamin C. Taste comes from oxalic acid crystals in the sap - do not eat excessive quantities.
