5 united petals in flat star

Scruffy, silver-green oblong to lancelike leaves with wavy margins. Stems and undersides of leaves with dark spines.[Ajilvsgi says may be sparsely prickly].

Flowers viole to pale lavender or rarely white, united at base, 5-lobed at rim adn appearing star-shaped. Anthers large, yellow, upright and conspicuous.

Fruit is dark to yellow to almost black when ripe. Was used in making cheese..
Very common in disturbed places.
