Tiny flowers in umbels

Not a true thistle, but leaf segments have spiny teeth.

Plant is 1-3 feet tall. Foliage starts gray green, becomes more purplish.

The flower heads, bracts and stamen are purple. The flower grows on short stems in the fork of the branches. The deeply lobed leaves surround the stems, clasping it. A tuft of small, rigid, spiny leaves grows out of the top of the flower head.
