Butterweed
Very difficult to distinguish amongst Senecia. All with yellow (narrow, rounded end) ray and yellow disc flowers. Ray flowers often turned backwards exposing disc flowers.
S. ampullaceus grows 1-2 feet tall. Leaves clasp the stem and are 1-3 inches long. One main vein down the center of leaf. 2-4 blossoms per stem. 7-9 ray flowers per flower head.
Clumpy, wooly gray hair on the spoonlike basal leaves and the narrow, triangular upper stem leaves differentiate this from other butterweeds.
