This flower was photographed along side of the Brazos river. Typically found in shallow water or mud of ditches and ponds. Distinctly four-angled stems. Up to 2 ft. in height.

Flower: Small, stalkless cluster from the leaf axils. 1/8 in. across. Four deep pink to purple petals that drop early, leaving the persistent four-angled, toothed calyx.

Leaves: Opposite linear shaped leaves clasping the stem with ear-like lobes.

Seedpod: When mature, capsule is globelike and filled with yellow or reddish seeds.
