Pea - like flower (5 petals)

Sprawling, twining, climbing, soft-hairy annual vine to 40 in. Stems much branched.

Flower: to 1/2 in. across, 5 pale pink to rose or lavender petals. Banner upright, wide-spreading. Wings contorted, keel dark purple at tip, very narrow, twisted, strongly curved with tip pointing back into the flower. Buds and outer surface of petals dark cream to ivory. Flowers few, in terminal long-stalked clusters from leaf axils. Stalks slender to 4 in.

Leaves: Alternate, stalked. Blade divided into three leaflets, with each narrow leaflet to 2 in. long. Middle leaflet short-stalked.

Seedpod: Species name means 'smooth-seeded'.

Leaflets
Although the leaflets are a little 'eaten-up', this shows the typical pattern with short stalk for the middle leaflet only.
