Scientific Name Aquilegia canadensis

5 petals with long spurs

Upright to 2 ft. Stem solitary, openly branched.

Flower: To 1.5 in. long and 1 in. wide. 5 red petal-like sepals opening between petals. 5 petals, united into a long tube or spur for much of length - red in tubular portion, yellow in lobed portion. Petals unite at base of lobes with sepals in between. Numerous stamens are close together forming straight protruding column. Flower is nodding and solitary, terminal on long slender branch.

Leaves: Alternate, short stalked, blade divided 2 or 3 times into 3 leaflets. Each leaflet to 1 1/8 in. long. Blade lobed to deeply cu. Many basal leaves form rounded clump.
