5 petals, united at base
Upright, smooth annual to 20 in.
Flower: To 2 in. across; 5 (4-7) pink to rose petals with white or yellowish green patch bordered in white at base. Occasionally all white. United at base, deeply 5-lobed at rim. Anthers bright yellow, recurved or coiled after releasing pollen. Style 2-branched, elongated, at first lying flat and twisting together to conceal stigmas, becoming erect and uncoiling after anthers shed pollen. Flowers solitary at ends of branches and on long stalks from leaf axils.
Leaves: To 1 3/4 in. long and 3/4 in. wide oposite, stalkless and basally clasping stem. |
