Low perennial herb to 12 in., from deep bulb. Flower stem appears above ground before leaves.
Flower: To 1 3/8 in. long. 6 golden or orange-yellow petal-like segments, sometimes tinged reddish brown on outer surface, united basally into slender tube, separated near tip with each 'petal' to 3/8 in wide. Flowers solitary on leafless stalks.
Leaves: To 10 in. long, from bulb, very narrow, smooth, thick, firm, appearing after flowers have withered. |
