Stout, erect, unbranched plant, 12-20 inches tall. Hairy with long hairs on the lower side of the leaves, especially along the veins.
Flower:1 or more flowers in the leaf axils. Early flowers lack petals but have 3-4 short sepals. Later flowers have 5 petals and 5 bluish/purple petals, united to form a slender tube that flares out nearly flat at the opening.
Leaves: Alternate. At the base, attached directly to stem, broader than long.
