Spiny shrub to small tree up to 30 ft. high. Long graceful, drooping branches with long delicate leaves and sprays of yellow flowers.
Flower: Five yellow petals to 2/3 in. long. Petals almost equal, but one has a honey gland at it's base and soon becomes red. It remains on the stalk longer than the other petals. Frequently blossoms after rain.
Leaves: The leaf stem produces two stalks, almost parallel and 15-18 in. long with 10-25 leaflets each. The leaflets fall off during summer and stems then carry function of leaves.
Seedpod: 3-5 in. long, narrow and constreicted between seeds. |
