Low, perennial 4-16 in. tall. Plants from bulb and also spread from underground runners.
Flower: To 3/4 in across, 5 lavender to violet rose wide-spreading petals. Flowers several, in cluster at tip of long, leafless stalk rising above leaves. Flowers close at night and during cloudy weather.
Leaves: Long stalked from bulb. Blade divided into 3 equal leaflets, each leaftlet 1 in. wide, deeply notched at tip. Upper surface bright green, lower often reddish or purplish. Leaflets fold downward at night or during cloudy weather.
