Upright to 1-2 feet, stem usually much branched, becoming woody at base.
Flower: head to 2 in. across. 6-15 ray flowers. Yellow at tip, red at base. 3 lobed at tip. Purplish-red to brown disk flowers are numerous.
Leaves: To 3 in. long , alternate, short-stalked or stalkless, clasping basally; margins entire to coarsely tootherd or lobed.
