Upright smooth annual to 28 in. solitary stem, branching at upper portion.

Flower: Head to 2 in. across. 5-9 ray flowers, solid yellow commonly with reddish brown in basal portion, wide-spreading to drooping. Disk flowers reddish brown, forming elongated cone-like structure. Heads solitary at ends of long, slender branches.

Leaves: to 4 in. long, alternate, stalkless and clasping stem at base of blade. The blade is conspicuously 1-ribbed. Margins entire to finely and sharply toothed.
